General Motors has announced the development, alongside Komastu - a global manufacturer of mining and construction equipment - of a hydrogen fuel cell power module to equip Komatsu's 930E electric-drive mining truck,

. The partners will jointly design and validate the technology.
GM asserts that hydrogen fuel cells are ideal for electric applications traditionally powered by diesel engines.

Hydrogen provides an efficient method of packaging large quantities of energy on-board the vehicle, without compromising payload capacity', says the automaker.

' At GM, we believe that fuel cells can play a key role in an emissions-free future, helping to electrify the heaviest applications beyond passenger vehicles,' said Charlie Freese, executive director of GM's global Hydrotec business.
