Kyocera and UScellular launched an unlocked version of the slim-form-factor DuraSport 5G late last year. Engineered to withstand drops, dirt, water immersion and the elements, Kyocera DuraSport 5G can be washed and sanitized to eliminate grit and grime after rough days in the field.

Rugged reliability in emergencies

Priced at $579 with UScellular, DuraSport 5G’s durable, lightweight design (6.5 ounces/185 grams) helps ensure it can easily be worn on a vest with other critical gear. A 6.1-inch scratch- and shatter-resistant display lets DuraSport 5G withstand the toughest day in the trenches: it is waterproof to a depth of 6.5 feet for up to 30 minutes (IPX8), dustproof (IP6X), and MIL-STD-810H tested to withstand drops of up to 5 feet onto concrete1, while handling extreme temperatures, salt fog, solar radiation, shock, and vibration, with a 4500mAh lithium polymer battery for all-day use.2 A programmable side button enables instant access to PTT3 (Push-To-Talk), easy Body-Worn Camera operation,4 or other frequently used apps.

DuraSport 5G’s cameras and video options can help any first responders share crucial details and images from the field. Dual rear cameras (48MP standard + 16MP ultra-wide angle) feature Night Mode for crisp images in dynamic lighting conditions, and ultra-wide angle for documenting crime scenes and for use as a Body-Worn Camera with Visual Labs Software Solution by Versaterm. Underwater photography and video recording can detail conditions for water rescues.

Indoor performance has been optimized with Enterprise-grade Wi-Fi, including Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity for up to 10 devices. Wi-Fi roaming and QoS support ensure DuraSport 5G will keep teams connected throughout large buildings. 802.11mc Wi-Fi Round Trip Timing (RTT) and dual-band GPS provide for precise positioning both indoors and out. Additionally, L1+L5 dual-band GPS improves accuracy in urban canyons, major metropolitan areas, or even remote hiking trails. DuraSport 5G provides clearer sound with dual noise-cancelling microphones and HD Voice for crystal-clear Cellular/Wi-Fi calling — including aptX Audio for high-definition sound over Bluetooth to help ensure details are heard “loud and clear” in high-noise environments.

Precision-engineered in Japan and TAA compliant, DuraSport 5G comes with a two-year standard manufacturer’s warranty, which covers most water and screen damage as well as the battery, adding to the phone’s overall value and helping challenged public sector budgets. A full list of DuraSport 5G’s features can be found here.
