McDonald's corporate operations will purchase all 225 restaurant locations in Israel from franchisee Alonyal Limited, owned by Omri Padan, according to a press release. Terms of the sale were not released, but McDonald's will retain Alonyal's employees.

"For more than 30 years, Alonyal Limited has been proud to bring the Golden Arches to Israel and serve our communities," Padan said in the press release. "We've grown the brand to be the leading and most successful restaurant chain in Israel and are grateful to our management, employees, suppliers, and customers who made this possible. We are encouraged by what the future holds."

"We thank Alonyal Limited for building the McDonald's business and brand in Israel over the past 30 years. McDonald's remains committed to the Israeli market and to ensuring a positive employee and customer experience in the market going forward," Jo Sempels, president of international developmental licensed markets at McDonald's Corporation, said in the release.

Consumers in Arab and Muslim-majority countries have boycotted McDonald's over what they perceive to be its support for Israel — which the chain's management denies — following the move by Israel's franchise branch to provide free McDonald's meals to Israeli soldiers after the Hamas-led violence of Oct. 7 that killed 1,200 people in Israel and took another 253 hostages, according to a CNBC report.
