STUTTGART (dpa-AFX) - Mercedes-Benz has recalled around 261,000 vehicles worldwide due to a software error. The GLE and GLS SUV models from the 2018 to 2023 model years are affected, according to a recall published in the database of the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) on Wednesday. In Germany, just under 4400 vehicles are affected.

According to the recall, a software error in the transmission control unit could lead to engine failure, increasing the risk of accidents. A spokesperson for the Stuttgart-based car manufacturer stated on request that the issue had no impact on the vehicle's steering and braking systems. Mercedes-Benz is not aware of any damage to property or personal injury in this regard. As a precautionary measure, the software in the affected vehicles will be updated.

Only last week, the KBA had published a Mercedes recall of around 341,000 GLE and GLS vehicles worldwide due to a possible fire hazard./rwi/DP/nas
