Taiheiyo Cement signs up to "30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity" and "Keidanren

Committee on Nature Conservation"

Taiheiyo Cement Corporation (Headquartered in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President & Representative Director: Masafumi Fushihara; hereinafter "Taiheiyo Cement") announces that it has signed up to the 30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity*1 and the Keidanren Committee on Nature Conservation*2.

At Taiheiyo Cement and Taiheiyo Cement Group, we believe that proactive measures to conserve biodiversity are a key management challenge. For this reason, in line with our Environmental Management Policy, we promote nature conservation initiatives-such as the conservation of rare animal and plant species, and the greening of both operational and spent mining sites-at our limestone mines that have impacts on biodiversity.

With regard to the 30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity, going forward we intend to carry out greening and conservation activities at company-owned mining sites, so that they become eligible for registration on the Global Database on Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures*3.

With regard to the Keidanren Committee on Nature Conservation, we intend to share information with other signatory companies and organizations

and, through the dissemination of this information, work with them to promote biodiversity conservation.

Through concrete biodiversity conservation activities, we seek to contribute to the realization of nature-positive outcomes championed by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)*4, and to execute our Group Mission: "Our mission is to contribute to social infrastructure development by providing solutions that are environmentally efficient, enhance our competitive position and bring value to our stakeholders."

*1The Ministry of the Environment established the 30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity in April 2022 to achieve the "30by30" target, a worldwide initiative aimed at conserving or protecting 30% of land and sea areas by 2030.

*2The Keidanren Committee on Nature Conservation was established by Keidanren in 1992, with the goal of implementing the ideas laid out in the Keidanren Global Environment Charter in the field of nature conservation. The Committee provides support for NGO nature conservation projects, raises awareness of biodiversity conservation among Japanese companies, and makes recommendations for international goals and Japanese governmental policies, etc.

*3Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECM) refers to areas where conservation efforts are being made by the private sector, and areas where non-conservation management contributes to protecting the natural environment as a result.

*4The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is an international organization established in June 2021 to create a framework for private companies and financial institutions to appropriately assess and disclose risks and opportunities related to natural capital and biodiversity.
