The Irvine, California-based company said it had a loss of 69 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for pretax expenses, came to 17 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 22 cents per share.

The clothing and accessories retailer posted revenue of $173 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $171.7 million.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $34.5 million, or $1.16 per share. Revenue was reported as $623.1 million.

For the current quarter ending in April, Tilly's expects its results to range from a loss of 54 cents per share to a loss of 42 cents per share.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $109 million to $119 million for the fiscal first quarter.
