DÜSSELDORF (dpa-AFX) - Just under four weeks before the European elections, the CEO of energy group Uniper, Michael Lewis, has called on people to go out and vote. "When considering solutions, our view must not stop at the edge of our plate. We should never think and act nationally, but on a European level," said Lewis according to the speech text for the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, which was published in advance on Tuesday.

The European elections are of great importance for future energy policy. "By that I mean energy prices as well as security of supply and further progress on decarbonization." All of this has a direct impact on prosperity and ultimately also influences peace and freedom. Lewis appealed: "Take part in the election on June 9 and vote for the EU you want to live in tomorrow. Europe must remain free, just, respectful and fair."

Uniper is taking part in the "We stand for values" campaign. Numerous major companies are calling on voters to take a stand against populism and extremism and to stand up for a diverse and tolerant Europe before the election./tob/DP/he
