Woolworths Holdings Limited reported earnings results for the half year ended December 24, 2023. For the half year, the company reported sales was ZAR 37,930 million compared to ZAR 35,860 million a year ago. Revenue was ZAR 37,536 million compared to ZAR 35,703 million a year ago.

Net income was ZAR 1,818 million compared to ZAR 2,733 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was ZAR 2.029 compared to ZAR 2.937 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was ZAR 2.009 compared to ZAR 2.893 a year ago.

WoolWorths Holdings Limited is one of the South African leaders in retailing. Net sales break down by activity as follows: - distribution of clothes and consumer products (49.3%): clothes for men, women and children, shoes, beauty products, accessories and homeware; - distribution of food products (47.3%); - other (3.4%): primarily financial services. At the end of June 2021, the group had a network of 1,279 stores broken down by name into WoolWorths (545), Country Road (689) and David Jones (45). Net sales break down geographically as follows: South Africa (61.4%), Africa (2.5%), Australia and New Zealand (36.1%).
