Nuance selected as a winner amongst organizations globally for delivering "Tomorrow's Technology Today" in Latin America for Banco Santander Mexico's Use of Voice Biometrics

BURLINGTON, Mass., - May 4, 2015 - Nuance Communications, Inc. today announced that it been honored with a Gold at the 2015 Global Excellence Awards in the Tomorrow's Technology Today in Latin America category for Banco Santander Mexico's use of voice biometrics. The security industry celebrated its 11th Annual 2015 Global Excellence Awards in San Francisco by honoring excellence in every facet of the industry including products, people behind the successes and best companies.

With the high volume of attacks around the world against password-protected services, and recent regulations in Mexico requiring tighter security and less reliance on PINs and passwords, Banco Santander Mexico looked to Nuance for a solution that would protect its customers' information while making the authentication process convenient. Banco Santander Mexico deployed Nuance's Vocal Password voice biometrics solution to replace PINs, passwords, and security questions in their automated phone system. This is the first such customer-facing voice biometrics application with global use in Mexico. Customers who call in to the bank's phone system can simply speak to be authenticated, making the banking-by-phone process quick, secure, and convenient. Now, customers simply speak the phrase "At Banco Santander, my voice is my password" to be authenticated by their unique voiceprint.

More than 50 judges from a broad spectrum of industry voices from around the world participated and their average scores determined the 2015 Global Excellence Awards Finalists and Winners. Winners were announced during the awards dinner and presentation on April 20, 2015 in San Francisco attended by the finalists, judges and industry peers.

Around the world, voice biometrics is quickly becoming an accepted form of authentication which has proven to be both secure and convenient. Nuance's voice biometrics solutions have been adopted globally by other large organizations such as ING Netherlands, SK Telecom, Tangerine Bank, Tatra Banka, Turkcell, and Vodacom South Africa.
