The park at Prejnuta, a popular meeting place for generations of Idrijans, now has a new children's playground. The modern playground equipment enables children to play safely and, at the same time, develop their motor skills, thereby strengthening their minds and bodies. Refurbishment of the playground has been supported by Zavarovalnica Triglav, in collaboration with the Municipality of Idrija. It is the 21st playground to be refurbished as part of the Children of Triglav campaign.

Play is an essential part of childhood. With a desire and the aim to ensure children are as safe as possible, Zavarovalnica Triglav and the Municipality of Idrija have joined forces to install new multi-purpose playground equipment at the park at Prejnuta, where children will be able to enjoy carefree outdoor play. The playground gives children the chance to test their sporting and other skills, and to meet up for safe play - and as the playground is located in the green surroundings of a park, their quest for new skills will be even more exciting.

A place to meet and make friends

The new playground has most excited precisely those at whom it is aimed: young children. The most visible proof of this has been the happy smiles of the children who gathered today at the official opening of the playground at Prejnuta, in the company of their parents and other residents of Idrija. Explaining the importance of the new equipment for children, Nadja Brence, headteacher of Idrija nursery school, said: 'An outdoor playground is what every child wants. It is their space, one that meets their needs and wishes, and one in which they feel safe, relaxed and free. Playing on swings, slides, balancing boards, climbing walls and roundabouts enables children to begin to be aware of their own bodies and acquire the ability to control it.'

Representatives of the Municipality of Idrija are also delighted with the new playground,as the equipment that was formerly at this popular meeting place was old and unsafe. 'Prejnuta has become livelier since the makeover, with young and old alike visiting the park,' said Bojan Sever, mayor of Idrija. The area was named after the factory that used to burn mercury ore.

Carefree and safe on the 21 playground

The children's play area at Prejnuta arose from the campaign that Zavarovalnica Triglav have been running to encourage children and their families to enjoy their leisure time in a healthier way. Explaining the purpose of the project, Ivica Vulić, director of Triglav's Nova Gorica Regional Office, said: 'The Children of Triglav campaign has been running for six years now. In that time we have tried to renovate existing or establish new environments in which families, children, young people and the young at heart can enjoy their free time in a fun, high-quality manner. We're particularly delighted that the 21 play area to be set up by the campaign is here.' Two more refurbished playgrounds will be opened by Slovenia's biggest insurer as part of the Children of Triglav project by the end of autumn, in Skopice (Municipality of Brežice) and Šempeter in the Savinja Valley - all with the aim of ensuring that young children are able to enjoy a safer, happier and more playful childhood.
