(Alliance News) - Edison Rsp Spa announced Tuesday that it has inaugurated a new 41 MW photovoltaic plant in Aidone, Sicily, as part of its growth strategy in renewable energy, which envisions 2 GW of installed photovoltaic capacity by 2030.

The new plant is named "Solecaldo" and generates about 71.5 GWh of renewable energy per year, thus meeting the energy needs of 26,500 households and avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of more than 29,000 tons of CO 2 per year.

"With the new Aidone plant, Edison continues the implementation of its development plan to 2030, which, in line with national and European policies of decarbonization and energy transition, plans to increase, from the current 2 GW to 5 GW, the renewable capacity installed in Italy," the company explained in a note.

Edison closed down 1.3 percent at EUR1.57 per savings share.
