Eutelsat Group announced on Thursday that it has signed a contract in sub-Saharan Africa with NEC XON to provide very high-speed connectivity services via its Eutelsat OneWeb low-earth orbit satellite technology.

This multi-year agreement, valued at several million dollars, follows on from the distribution agreement signed by the two groups last November and a test phase that was deemed successful.

The partnership will enable NEC XON to offer its corporate customers connectivity services in areas poorly served by terrestrial communications, in sectors such as agriculture, mining and oil & gas.

The service is to be marketed first in South Africa, before being offered in the 15 African countries where NEC XON is present.
