Getlink welcomes the signature by the French Secretary of State for the Sea and Biodiversity of the decrees implementing the law aimed at combating social dumping and reinforcing the safety of cross-Channel maritime transport.

This law establishes the principle of a minimum wage for seafarers sailing between France and England. It was to be supplemented by decrees concerning, in particular, the operating criteria for the lines concerned and the maximum embarkation time.

Adopted by the French Parliament in the summer of 2023, the law aims to re-establish conditions of fair competition between operators and combat the human exploitation of crews on board ferries flying flags of free registration, by introducing a minimum wage and means of monitoring compliance with employment conditions within maritime operators linking France and Great Britain.

' The entry into force of the law through the signature of the implementing decrees represents a decisive step towards a return to conditions of fair competition between the various operators in cross-Channel transport', said Yann Leriche, Getlink's Managing Director.
