MetLife, American International Group and Arab National Bank Cooperative Insurance Company reported earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2017. For the quarter, the company reported net loss before zakat was SAR 6,868,000 compared to SAR 3,679,000 a year ago. Net written premiums were SAR 87,661,000 compared to SAR 41,316,000 a year ago. Net profit of policy holders investment were SAR 304,000 compared SAR440,000 a year ago. Net profit of shareholders capital investment were SAR 1,380,000 compared to SAR 447,000 a year ago. Net losses for the first quarter 2017 have increased over the first quarter 2016 by SAR 3,188,000 (86.66%) due to decline in underwriting results by SAR 1,612,000. This is in spite of the increase in underwriting results for SAR 19,421,000 which was offset by the increase in underwriting expenses by SR 21,033,000 due to the increase in net claims incurred and the increase in provision for doubtful receivables.
