Sumitomo Corp. and Nippon Sharyo Ltd. announced that they have jointly won an order for train cars to be used for Indonesia's first subway line. Under the contract, worth ¥13 billion, 96 subway cars will be supplied for the North-South Line of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit system by the time the line opens in May 2018.

The subway system in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta has been developed partly with yen loans from the Japanese government. Sumitomo and Nippon Sharyo have so far jointly supplied railcars to the United States and Taiwan.
