BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - The planned partial legalization of cannabis in Germany will be finally passed by the Bundesrat on Friday (9.30 a.m.). The law passed by the Bundestag does not require approval there, but the state chamber could send it to the joint mediation committee with parliament and thus slow it down for the time being. According to the plans of the traffic light coalition, possession and cultivation of the drug with numerous requirements for adults for personal consumption will be permitted from April 1. On July 1, non-commercial associations for communal cultivation will also be able to start.

In view of many points of criticism from the federal states, the federal government addressed a number of concerns. In a declaration to be recorded in the Bundesrat, it pledged more support for prevention and education, among other things. According to the statement, some subsequent amendments to the law are also to be made, for example for more flexible implementation rules.

Another item on the agenda of the chamber of states is a law that aims to create an online atlas of services and treatment quality in German hospitals. It was initially sent to the mediation committee by the Bundesrat - now it is to be voted on again./sam/DP/mis
